Garden news

Hi gardeners,

We hope you are starting to enjoy your gardens more now that Spring has arrived. We especially welcome the new gardeners and look forward to seeing you all at the garden. Here is the news from our meeting on Monday.

The council is continuing to work on how to keep the gopher population under control. Flooding and using granules seems to have helped in some areas of the garden, whilst other plots are continuing to have their plants eaten. We have noticed that where there are neglected plots, the gophers are able to hide. It is your responsibility to make sure you garden regularly and if you have any holes in your plots, to flood regularly. Please continue to flood.

We are in the process of buying a Cold Frame which the garden can use as a nursery for seedlings.

Plot sizes:
The council would like to offer gardeners some half plots. We know some of you don’t have the time for a whole plot or simply don’t need all the space. Please e-mail the council at veranogarden@gmail.com if you are interested in changing to a half size plot.

Next work day:
Our next group work day will be on Saturday, March 23rd from 9-11am. If you have not yet signed up this quarter to help at the garden, please use VolunteerSpot. The main job will be tidying and cleaning the shed. If you cannot make that day, remember there are composting duties you can sign up for on Thursdays or Sundays. Hope to see you there.

And finally…
Please write to us at veranogarden@gmail.com if you have any questions or suggestions.

Take care,
Verano Garden Council
